Guided Search is a must for both retailers and users
Whilst giving a presentation to the Catalogue Exchange this month, everyone who had implemented guided search and 8 companies who had, had seen an improvement in site conversion. This is no surprise to us and the reason why guided search is a central component to our new DC 2.0 ecommerce platform and not a bolt on extra.

Search Trends: Position 1 or 2 for a few and / or P1 for many
Our SEO team have been researching the difference in traffic levels between positions 1 - 10 for our clients keywords and have been surprised at the drop between position 1 and 2 and 2 - 10. In some examples position 1 got 75% of the clicks and position 2 only 8%! The key to a good search strategy is about achieving the top 2 positions and / or page 1 for a large number of other keywords.

Analytics: Are you targeting the right keywords
A fashion retail client, like most of our SEO clients had achieved some impressive rankings on terms that you would have thought would deliver a great conversion. What our analytics tools showed us over November and December was they did not covert well and we should focus on more generic, higher volume terms. It sounds obvious, but SEO and analytics must be working together to ensure maximum ROI is achieved.
